wc3env
Gym-style environment for offline Warcraft III with deterministic stepping and fog-filtered observations, plus an agent using Jev for micro.
Overview
wc3env is a gym-style environment for real Warcraft III Legacy (version 1.29) on Windows. An injected DLL provides deterministic stepping, fog-filtered observations and native commands on stock maps, with offline self-play and pools of independent game processes; Linux workers run under Wine. You need your own licensed installation, and it must never be used online.
The repository also includes an LLM agent in wc3agent that uses Jev for micro-level decisions alongside a separate macro model from Anthropic or OpenAI, and can play mirror duels. The environment itself is model-agnostic and designed for driving decision models against a real game. Linux workers can run the same environment under Wine, an end-to-end test drives the real game for about three minutes, and setup requires Windows build tools for the 32-bit hook.

How it works
- Launch Warcraft III with the injected hook.
- Step the environment and read fog-filtered observations.
- Jev decides micro actions; a macro model plans strategy.
- Send native commands and repeat.
Strengths
- Deterministic stepping for reproducible experiments.
- Fog-of-war-respecting observations.
- Parallel game processes and Wine workers.
Caveats
- Requires a licensed Warcraft III 1.29 install and Windows build tools.
- Offline only; unofficial.
