hermes-and-jev-play-minecraft
Minecraft agent where Hermes plans, Jev picks one bounded action at a time and a Mineflayer harness validates and executes.
Overview
This project has Hermes Agent plan, Jev pick one bounded action at a time, and a Mineflayer harness decide which actions are valid and execute them; no model sends screenshots, keypresses or generated code. It follows the architecture of rmalde/minecraft-agent, which beat the Ender Dragon from a fresh Survival world, but is an independent, smaller implementation with nothing copied.
The harness runs a pure-Node Minecraft 1.16.5 server with no Java and exposes observe, options, act and plan endpoints, where validity is decided. The controller calls Hermes as planner at milestones and Jev via OpenRouter's decisions endpoint as a Choice over the harness's options, logging every plan and decision with probabilities, confidence, cost and latency. A Hermes skill lets you drive the harness from a chat session. The reproduction report describes beating the Ender Dragon in 7:45 with no deaths for $0.96, compared with the original 8:43 and $0.97.
What the decision model decides
| Type | Question | Answers |
|---|---|---|
| Choice | Which of the currently valid actions should the bot take next? | — |
How it works
- Hermes produces a plan at milestones
- Harness lists valid options for the current observation
- Jev chooses one option
- Mineflayer executes; log decision details
Strengths
- Validity enforced by the harness, not the model
- Reproduced a complex result at low cost
- No Java required
Caveats
- Requires Hermes Agent and an OpenRouter key
- Game-specific harness
Getting started

How curated lists describe it
Hermes Agent plans, Jev (TypeSafe) picks bounded actions, Mineflayer executes: Minecraft with no screenshots or keypresses from a model. Includes the reproduction of rmalde/minecraft-agent's Ender Dragon run.
