DoomSat

Doom runs as a spacecraft payload over real flight software; Jev pilots from the ground every half second while Claude reviews.

Projectprototype

Overview

DoomSat runs Doom as the payload of a simulated spacecraft. An F Prime flight computer sends telemetry and video down through CCSDS frames to Yamcs, viewable in Open MCT or a small dashboard. The ground pilot is Jev: every half second it picks where to go and uplinks an intent. Claude Sonnet, acting as System Two, reviews each attempt using your Claude Code login. No part of the pilot reads the level file.

The README reports that on 24 September 2026 Jev finished E1M1 in 105 seconds with no deaths through the full mission stack. Setup takes about 3 GB and 15 to 20 minutes on Linux or WSL2, a TypeSafe key is needed for Jev, and without one you can fly it yourself. A CLAUDE.md lets Claude Code set it up for you.

What the decision model decides

TypeQuestionAnswers
ChoiceWhere should the pilot go next (intent to uplink)?(inferred)—

How it works

  1. Flight software streams telemetry and video to the ground
  2. Jev chooses a movement intent every half second
  3. Intent is uplinked as a command through the mission stack
  4. Claude reviews each attempt

Strengths

  • Demonstrates decisions over a real mission-control stack
  • Fast/slow split between Jev and Claude
  • Playable without a key

Caveats

  • Novelty demo
  • Heavy setup (Linux/WSL2, Node 24, about 3 GB)

Getting started

Follow the Linux or WSL2 install steps in the README, or open Claude Code in the folder and ask it to set DoomSat up.

How curated lists describe it

  • F´ flight software → CCSDS/Yamcs → Open MCT, with jev (System One) and Claude Sonnet 5 (System Two) driving Doom over that real mission stack.

Frequently asked questions

What does Jev do?

It pilots Doom from the ground, choosing an intent every half second.

What does Claude do?

It reviews each attempt as a slower System Two.

Has it finished a level?
