typesafe-minecraft-demo
Experimental Minecraft bot where each TypeSafe decision picks one primitive action, which completed a 338-block flag build in recorded runs.
Overview
TypeSafe plays Minecraft is a Minecraft Java bot controlled through TypeSafe Choice decisions, with a live world view and the actual API input and output beside it. In the current direct-control mode, each decision picks one primitive: a 250 ms movement pulse, a 30-degree turn, aiming at an observed target, equipping an item, mining or placing one eligible block, inspecting or waiting. Mineflayer executes it. Code supplies observations, candidate coordinates, the flag blueprint, collision vetoes and completion checks, but no automatic pathfinding.
The Canadian Flag scenario requires mining 234 red and 104 white wool from supply beds and placing all 338 cells of a 26 by 13 blueprint. The README reports runs that completed it, including an uninterrupted run with 2,266 decisions in about 16.5 minutes, and is careful to say these show completed gameplay, not guaranteed repeatability. An earlier 131-decision result used higher-level control and is labeled as such. There is also a Lumber Run scenario.
What the decision model decides
| Type | Question | Answers |
|---|---|---|
| Choice | Which primitive action should the bot take next (move, turn, aim, equip, mine, place, inspect, wait)? | move pulse · turn · aim at target · equip · mine block · place block · inspect · wait |
How it works
- Code observes the world and lists candidates.
- TypeSafe chooses one primitive action.
- Mineflayer executes it; code checks collisions and completion.
- Repeat until the scenario is complete.
Strengths
- Every action is chosen by the model, with no hidden pathfinding.
- Detailed, honest run reports.
- 72 offline/HTTP tests reported passing.
Caveats
- Completion is not guaranteed to repeat.
- Some runs needed maintenance pauses and code fixes.
- Thousands of decisions per build.

Frequently asked questions
Does the model control every move?
In direct mode, yes: each decision selects one primitive action.
Did it finish the flag?
The README reports several completed runs, including one uninterrupted run of 2,266 decisions.
Is the 131-decision video comparable?
No, that used higher-level task control, as the README notes.
