terrarium

Browser sandbox where Jev picks a small creature's control each step from a world-state JSON while code runs the world.

Projectprototype

Overview

Terrarium is a sandbox in which Jev controls a small creature. Code runs the world and Jev only picks a button. Each step sends the world as JSON, including species profile, position, eight drives, every object with distance and direction, and recent events, along with one Choice over eleven controls and a fan-out of per-object questions: a threat Score, edible and drinkable Nouls, an interest Score and a shelter Noul, plus the most pressing drive, an in-danger Noul and a mood Score, all in one round trip.

Code walks the control distribution from the top and takes the first control the world can honour, resolving targets from Jev's per-object judgments. Users can drop free-text objects, which Jev classifies into properties such as food type, poison or heat, with real consequences if Jev is wrong. Every decision is logged with state, questions, probabilities, latency, tokens and any code override. The author built it to measure Jev's speed with large requests and the accuracy of its snap judgments, with games, live apps and robots in mind.

What the decision model decides

TypeQuestionAnswers

Yes / noIs the creature in danger?—

How it works

  1. Serialize the world state to JSON each step.
  2. Ask one control Choice plus per-object and drive questions in one request.
  3. Code takes the highest-ranked control the world allows and resolves targets.
  4. Log the full decision record for inspection.

Strengths

  • Full decision log with latency and probabilities.
  • Runs with a mock brain without a key.
  • No dependencies beyond Node.

Caveats

  • Sandbox for measurement, not a game engine.
  • No licence stated.

How curated lists describe it

  • A sandbox where a TypeSafe System One model presses the controls of a small creature. Code runs the world.

Frequently asked questions

What does Jev control?

Only which of eleven controls the creature presses, plus judgments about objects; code runs the world and resolves targets.

Can I run it without a key?

Yes, a mock brain plays without a TypeSafe key.

What is logged?

Each step's state, questions, probabilities, latency, token count and whether code overruled the model.
