nanojev-arena
Local Snake battle where four NanoJev AI snakes pick moves from a candidate distribution while you play the fifth.
Overview
NanoJev Arena is a local game demo for NanoJev, the 0.6B open Jev replica. In a 1-vs-4 Snake match you steer a gold snake while four NanoJev snakes compete for food; a side panel shows each AI snake's current direction probabilities. The README is in Chinese.
Decisions are hybrid. A code planner runs every frame to exclude reversing, wall and self collisions, computes a BFS shortest path to the nearest food and narrows to 2-4 candidate moves. NanoJev then answers a batched choice question for all four snakes (about 0.2 s) and the argmax is used; until the response arrives the planner steers, so snakes never crash while waiting. The README reports that in a full-map comparison NanoJev ate 27 food items and survived to the step limit while base Qwen3-0.6B got stuck at step 211. An installer clones NanoJev, sets up the environment and downloads the 2.3 GB checkpoint.

How it works
- Code planner filters unsafe moves and proposes 2-4 candidates.
- NanoJev scores candidates for all AI snakes in one batch.
- Take the argmax; planner covers until the response arrives.
- Display per-snake probability bars.
Strengths
- Shows a clean code-plus-model hybrid with safe fallbacks.
- Runs locally with no API.
- Visualises the model's distribution in real time.
Caveats
- Requires an NVIDIA GPU with at least 6 GB VRAM.
- Turing GPUs need fp32 to avoid slow inference.
- Docs in Chinese.

Frequently asked questions
What does NanoJev decide?
Each AI snake's next direction from a small set of safe candidates.
Can I play without a GPU?
Live inference needs CUDA; upstream NanoJev has browser replays that need no model.
Why can't the AI crash while waiting?
The code planner steers until the model's response arrives.
