Hollow Creek

Browser demo of village NPCs that make a typed Jev judgment each tick about what to do and how they feel.

Overview

Hollow Creek is a hosted web demo set in a small village. Instead of chatting with the player through generated dialogue, each non-player character makes a typed judgment on every simulation tick: what action to take next and how it feels about the player. The list summaries describe it as NPCs that judge you rather than talk to you.

It illustrates a common pattern for game AI with decision models: the game state for each character is passed in as unstructured text, Jev returns probabilities over a small set of actions and moods, and game code turns those into behaviour. No repository or README was available, so the exact questions, options and thresholds are not documented.

What the decision model decides

How it works

  1. Game builds a text description of each NPC's situation every tick
  2. Jev picks the NPC's next action and mood
  3. Game code applies the action and updates the world

Strengths

  • No generated text means NPC behaviour stays within the designed action set
  • Per-tick decisions are cheap and quick enough for a live simulation

Caveats

  • Only a hosted demo; source and setup are not documented
  • Exact decision schema and model usage are unknown

Frequently asked questions

What does Hollow Creek decide?

Each NPC's next action and its feeling toward the player, once per tick.

How is this different from LLM-driven NPCs?

The NPCs pick from fixed options with probabilities rather than writing dialogue, which keeps them predictable and cheap.

Can I play it?

Yes, it is hosted at hollow-creek-sigma.vercel.app.
