Laser

Focus mode for Omarchy/Hyprland that has Jev judge each screen against your declared task and escalates gently when you drift.

Projectbeta

Overview

Laser is an AI focus mode and distraction blocker for Omarchy and Hyprland on Linux. Instead of a blocklist, you declare what you are working on, and Jev judges each screen in the context of that task, so Reddit can be on task for a machine-learning thesis and a distraction otherwise, and WhatsApp can be work when replying to clients. Each check takes about half a second and costs a fraction of a cent; the README estimates about a cent a day.

When on task, the active window glows and everything else dims. When you drift, it escalates gently: a red reticle at 30 seconds, a notification at 1 minute, a pulsing red screen edge at 2 minutes, a haze over the distracting window at 3 minutes, and closing the tab at 4 minutes. Only browser tabs and web apps are ever closed, never native apps. Strict, warn-only and keep-it-hazy modes adjust this. It is described as privacy-first and ADHD-friendly and is distributed as an Omarchy plugin.

What the decision model decides

TypeQuestionAnswers
Yes / noIs what is on screen on task for the declared work?—

How it works

  1. Declare your task
  2. Laser periodically captures the current screen context
  3. Jev returns the probability that it is on task
  4. Code applies escalation timers when drifting
  5. Only browser tabs or web apps are closed at the final stage

Strengths

  • Task-aware rather than blocklist-based
  • Gentle, configurable escalation
  • Never closes native apps
  • Very low daily cost per the README

Caveats

  • Screen context is sent to the hosted API
  • Omarchy/Hyprland only
  • Judgments can misfire on ambiguous screens

Frequently asked questions

What does Jev decide?

Whether the current screen is on task for what you declared, as a probability.

Will it close my apps?

Only browser tabs and web apps, and only after several escalation stages; warn-only mode closes nothing.

What does it cost?

About a cent a day, per the README.
