Kibu

Mac desktop pet agent that does tasks across files, apps and websites, using Jev alone for file chores and an LLM for open-ended work.

Appprototype

Overview

Kibu is a desktop pet for Apple Silicon Macs that takes an instruction, looks at relevant context, does the work with files, applications and websites, and shows evidence of what it did. You can watch it, pause it, stop it and undo file changes. It is an early, macOS-only prototype built with Electron and a Swift helper.

It splits work by model. With only a TypeSafe key, Jev handles tasks such as organising a folder, finding a file and renaming files with no planning model involved, at about 100 ms per decision according to the README. Open-ended app and browser tasks need a planning model, either an Anthropic key for Claude or, if you already use Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode, those tools on your Mac with your own login. Local file search, arithmetic and capability help work without any key. Keys are stored encrypted in the macOS Keychain. A browser demo is available. The README is careful to say what has and has not been tested.

What the decision model decides

TypeQuestionAnswers
ChoiceWhich file or folder action fits the instruction (organise, find, rename)?(inferred)—
ChoiceWhich file matches what the user is looking for?(inferred)—

How it works

  1. User gives an instruction via hotkey or menu bar
  2. Kibu gathers context from files and apps
  3. Jev decides bounded file tasks directly; a planning model handles open-ended tasks
  4. Kibu performs the actions and shows evidence
  5. User can pause, stop or undo file changes

Strengths

  • Jev-only path for simple file chores without a planning model
  • Undo for file changes
  • Keys stored in the Keychain
  • Can reuse an existing Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode login

Caveats

  • Early prototype, macOS 14+ on Apple Silicon only
  • Open-ended tasks need a separate planning model
  • Desktop control carries risk

Frequently asked questions

What can Jev do on its own here?

Organise a folder, find a file and rename files, without a planning model.

Do I need an Anthropic key?

Only for open-ended tasks, unless you route planning through Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode.

Can I undo its changes?

Yes, file changes can be undone.
