jev-page-verdict
Chrome extension that asks Jev whether a page is selling something or reporting first-hand experience, and marks Google results.
Overview
Page Verdict is a Manifest V3 Chrome extension that answers one question about the page you are on: is it selling you something, or is someone telling you what it was actually like? The verdict comes from Jev, and its confidence tells the extension when to stay quiet. According to the list summary, it also marks Google results with verdicts it already has or snippet-only estimates, leaving low-confidence ones undecided.
One request carries nine questions evaluated in parallel, following the speculative fan-out pattern; the design adds axes instead of stacking labels onto one axis. They include genre (selling, first-hand, news, reference, discussion or none), stance (seller, incentivised, user, observer or unclear) and publisher type. Only pages where you press the toolbar icon are sent anywhere. It needs no build step, and the key is stored in plain text in extension storage, which the README discusses in its security notes. A Japanese README is available.
What the decision model decides
| Type | Question | Answers |
|---|---|---|
| Choice | genre: what kind of page is this? | Selling · First-hand · News · Reference · Discussion · None of these |
| Choice | stance: who is speaking? | The seller · Incentivized · A user · An observer · Unclear |
| Choice | publisher: what kind of publisher is it? | Official site · Media · Individual · Aggregator · Platform |
How it works
- Press the toolbar icon on a page
- The extension sends page text with nine questions in one request
- Jev returns probabilities for each axis
- Code combines them into a verdict or stays undecided on low confidence
Strengths
- Nine axes for the cost of one request
- Only pages you choose are sent
- No build step
Caveats
- API key stored in plain text in chrome.storage.local
- Requires a TypeSafe key (or swap to a gateway)
- Cannot judge chrome:// or Web Store pages
Getting started
git clone the repo, load it unpacked at chrome://extensions in Developer mode, then paste a TypeSafe key in the extension options. At a glance
