twitter-jev-guard

Chrome/Edge extension that flags low-quality, spam and promoted X posts with Jev and overlays a translucent STOP or AD watermark.

Projectbeta

Overview

Twitter Jev Guard is a Manifest V3 browser extension for personal browsing on X. Its background service worker calls Jev directly with the visible post text and some public metadata, asking two questions at once: whether the post should be flagged as low quality on a personal timeline, and what its main type is (spam or scam, promotion, engagement bait, possibly misleading, or valuable).

When the low-quality probability reaches the threshold (75 percent by default), a red translucent STOP stamp appears over the post text; posts X itself marks as promoted get an amber AD watermark based on page metadata. It retries on rate-limit or server errors and limits concurrent requests. The README is clear that this is not fact-checking or platform moderation, that the API key in extension storage is less isolated than a server proxy, and that images and video are not analyzed.

What the decision model decides

TypeQuestionAnswers
Yes / noShould this post be flagged as low quality on a personal timeline?yes · no
ChoiceWhat is the main type of this post?spam/scam · promotion · engagement bait · possibly misleading · valuable

How it works

  1. The content script reads visible posts and metadata.
  2. The service worker sends them to Jev's /v1/systemone.
  3. Above the threshold, a STOP watermark is drawn over the text.
  4. Posts with X's promoted markers get an AD watermark.

Strengths

  • No runtime dependencies or local proxy needed.
  • Adjustable threshold.
  • Does not cover images or video with the watermark.

Caveats

  • API key stored in extension storage is less isolated than a server proxy.
  • Text only; no image or fact verification.
  • Ad detection depends on X's DOM markers.
