RefGarden

3D visual-reference gallery over The Met, NASA, Cosmos and Prelinger Archives where local Jev picks search phrases and highlights.

AppbetaMIT

Overview

RefGarden is a dark, three-dimensional gallery for finding image and short-video references from one prompt. It draws artwork from The Met, space and science imagery from NASA, design references from Cosmos and short films from the Internet Archive's Prelinger Archives, balancing sources and filtering duplicates. You can orbit and zoom while references arrive, pin up to six, revisit saved searches and export a JSON record.

In the local Explore mode, Jev chooses search phrases for each enabled collection from bounded options built from the brief and style presets, and reads image metadata (titles and descriptions only, never pixels, frames or audio) to pick at most one highlight per image source. Jev can also decide that no image fits. The hosted preview uses keyword retrieval without Jev. The key is entered locally and saved in an ignored .env file, and the maintainer's server is not involved in Jev requests. Tests use fixtures and mocked calls.

How it works

  1. Enter a prompt, media types and styles
  2. Jev chooses search phrases from bounded options per source
  3. Fetch references from The Met, NASA, Cosmos and Prelinger
  4. Jev reads metadata to highlight up to one image per source
  5. Keep, pin or export references

Strengths

  • Jev sees only text metadata, not media
  • Bounded options mean Jev cannot invent queries
  • Runs locally with your own key

Caveats

  • Hosted preview does not use Jev
  • Results vary by prompt and source coverage
  • Media rights belong to each source
