Overview

Jev Shield by vmendes90 is a Manifest V3 Chrome extension aimed at ads that filter lists struggle with: native ads and sponsored posts on feeds such as X, Reddit and LinkedIn that share the same domain, markup and styling as organic content. It uses Jev's noul primitive to estimate the probability that a candidate feed element is promotional and collapses confirmed native ads.

Alongside the Jev layer it bundles conventional blocking: declarativeNetRequest rules for 35 ad, header-bidding and tracking networks, removal of standard banner and iframe containers, neutralizing sticky and floating ad bars, and running in all frames. A separate media engine injects a scriptlet at document start to prune ad payloads before players initialize and speeds through muted in-stream ads to avoid black-screen stalls. The README describes it as privacy-first and open source under MIT. Only the semantic detection layer depends on Jev; most of the blocking is rule-based, and the README does not report measured accuracy for the Jev step.

What the decision model decides

How it works

  1. Network rules block known ad domains
  2. Content script finds candidate feed elements
  3. Jev estimates whether each is promotional
  4. Confirmed native ads are collapsed
  5. Media scriptlet handles in-stream video ads

Strengths

  • Targets native ads that filter lists miss
  • Combines semantic and rule-based blocking
  • Open source under MIT

Caveats

  • Most blocking is conventional, not Jev-based
  • No accuracy figures for the Jev step
  • Sends page text to the API for judgment
