jev_fsd

Browser driving simulator on real Canadian streets where you can replay every decision the AI driver made and why.

AppprototypeMIT

Overview

Jev Drive Lab is a research driving simulator built from OpenStreetMap data for eight neighbourhoods across seven Canadian cities, with roads, lanes, signs, lights, buildings, parked cars, traffic, cyclists and pedestrians. You can drive yourself or watch an AI driver, and every AI decision is recorded so you can pause, scrub back to a moment such as a car door opening, and see what the driver could see, what it considered and why it rejected each alternative.

It includes six vehicles, weather and time-of-day settings with realistic sun position, and six hand-built challenges such as the door zone and junctions in fog. The public demo runs entirely in the browser with no install, account or key. The README states it is a research simulator and not meant to control a real vehicle. Based on the repository name and list summary, Jev is the driving decision model; the excerpt does not detail the questions asked.

What the decision model decides

TypeQuestionAnswers
ChoiceWhich driving manoeuvre should the AI take now?(inferred)—

How it works

  1. Load a real neighbourhood and scenario
  2. AI driver observes the scene
  3. Choose among manoeuvres and record considered alternatives
  4. Replay and inspect each decision

Strengths

  • Full decision replay with rejected alternatives
  • Runs in the browser with no key
  • Realistic city layouts

Caveats

  • Research simulator only
  • Excerpt does not detail how Jev is queried
