MinusPod
Self-hosted podcast ad remover that transcribes episodes and uses an LLM or System One to detect and cut ad segments.
Overview
MinusPod is a self-hosted server that removes ads from podcasts before you play them. It transcribes episodes locally with faster-whisper or Parakeet (or a remote API), asks an LLM to find ad segments over sliding windows, verifies the re-cut audio, and learns cross-episode sponsor patterns from your corrections so repeat ads are caught without another LLM call.
System One is one of the supported providers, with native support for detection and verification and an experimental review stage. Each detected marker gets a segment category such as sponsor, cross-promo, self-promo or intro, which maps to remove, beep, keep or mark as a chapter. Confidence scores feed a review queue, and audio signals (loudness, jingles, VAD gaps, cross-fetch differences) add evidence. It is for podcast listeners who want ad-free feeds on their own hardware with their choice of model provider.
What the decision model decides
| Type | Question | Answers |
|---|---|---|
| Yes / no | Is this transcript window an ad segment?(inferred) | yes · no |
| Choice | Segment category for this marker | sponsor · cross-promo · self-promo · interaction · intro · outro · recap |
| Choice | Reviewer verdict on a detected cut | confirm · adjust · reject |
How it works
- Fetch the episode and transcribe it locally or remotely.
- Run first-pass ad detection over sliding transcript windows.
- Verify the re-cut audio and optionally run the ad-reviewer stage.
- Hold low-confidence cuts for review; apply remove, beep, keep or mark per category.
Strengths
- Bring-your-own provider, including System One, switchable at runtime with failover.
- Learned sponsor patterns reduce repeat LLM calls.
- Local transcription keeps audio on your own server.
Caveats
- System One review support is labelled experimental.
- Licence not stated in the fetched README excerpt.
- Requires running transcription and LLM infrastructure.

Frequently asked questions
Where does System One fit?
It is a native provider option for ad detection and verification, with experimental support for the review stage.
Can I run it without a cloud LLM?
Yes, it supports Ollama and any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, and transcription can run locally.
What happens to borderline detections?
They go to a review queue filtered by hold reason, and an optional reviewer stage can confirm, adjust or reject them.
