Sponsor Skip
Chrome extension and web app that find YouTube sponsor reads with Jev from transcripts or audio and skip them.
Overview
Sponsor Skip finds sponsor reads in YouTube videos and jumps past them while you watch, via a Chrome extension, or reports timestamps for a pasted link via a small web app. Code owns every timestamp: Jev only names a transcript line or answers yes/no about what it heard. The transcript is rendered as numbered lines and Jev picks line IDs for read boundaries, following TypeSafe's semantic-find cookbook, with phrases such as 'like and subscribe' spelled out as not sponsors.
Three modes trade cost for coverage: transcript only (under a cent per hour watched, where YouTube provides captions), Smart (transcript finds reads and audio confirms around each one, about $0.05 per hour), and Listen only (audio streamed to Deepgram, with Jev checking every few seconds and the video jumping ahead in 10 s steps, about $0.46 per hour). Skips happen only above a confidence you set (70% by default), and in audio modes everything Jev hears has already played, so a jump never lands before the read starts. Keys stay in extension storage, results are cached per video, and tests run against a stub Jev client.
What the decision model decides
| Type | Question | Answers |
|---|---|---|
| Choice | Which transcript line starts (or ends) a sponsor read? | — |
| Yes / no | Is a sponsor read playing in the audio just heard? | — |
How it works
- Get the transcript (or live audio via Deepgram)
- Jev picks boundary lines or answers yes/no on recent audio
- Code converts answers into timestamps and skip points
- Skip only above the confidence threshold
Strengths
- Under a cent per hour in transcript mode per the README
- Never cuts content before a read starts
- Running cost shown in the panel
Caveats
- Audio modes need a Deepgram key and cost more
- Transcript mode needs YouTube captions
