jev-x

Chrome extension that scores X timeline posts on five dimensions with Jev and dims or collapses them according to your sliders.

Overview

jev-x, which appears in Chrome as Cut the Noise, is a personal-use extension for the X home timeline and lists. For each post it asks Jev five independent Score questions in one request: firsthand experience, self-promotion, engagement bait, technical depth and relevance to interests you enter. Results are cached and combined in plain JavaScript with user-set slider weights from -3 to +3 (defaults favour firsthand experience and relevance and penalise promotion and bait), and the net score decides whether a post is dimmed or collapsed. Changing a slider changes decisions instantly without another model call.

There are no summaries and no reordering, and every collapsed post has a Show anyway button. Posts without text are left alone, low-confidence results are never collapsed, an author allowlist skips scoring, and a debug mode shows each post's scores and proposed action. The README stresses these are content judgments, not fact-checks or an AI-slop detector. The rubric lives in a worker module, suggesting requests go through a small backend.

What the decision model decides

TypeQuestionAnswers
ScoreHow much does this post reflect firsthand experience / self-promotion / engagement bait / technical depth / relevance to my interests?—

How it works

  1. Extract text from timeline posts
  2. One request with five Score questions per post; cache results
  3. Compute weighted net score from user sliders
  4. Dim or collapse below thresholds; low confidence never collapses

Strengths

  • User controls weights; no re-query when sliders change
  • Never hides posts irreversibly
  • Transparent debug strip of scores

Caveats

  • Content judgments, not fact-checks
  • X home timeline and lists only
