jev-keyboard

Developer preview adding Jev candidate reranking to the Rime (Squirrel) Chinese input method on macOS with a Ctrl tap.

ProjectprototypeMIT

Overview

Jev Keyboard adds Jev-based candidate reranking to Squirrel, the macOS build of the Rime input method. You type pinyin as usual, tap Ctrl, and the candidate list is reordered; a second tap restores the original order. An enhanced mode refreshes candidates automatically when results arrive. Settings control the reorder key, how many characters of preceding context are sent (20 by default, 0 to 200), a 150 ms wait, probability display and call quotas.

It is a developer preview with no installer; you build from source on macOS 13+ (tested on Apple silicon only, with Windows planned). Cloud ranking is off by default, and once enabled it prefetches by sending pinyin, candidates and limited context while you type, not only when Ctrl is pressed. The README warns users to stop the service and switch input methods before typing passwords, codes or private content. It is MIT licensed and builds on Rime and rime-ice. Documentation is in Chinese.

What the decision model decides

TypeQuestionAnswers
ChoiceWhich candidate best fits the pinyin and preceding context?(inferred)—

How it works

  1. Type pinyin in Squirrel
  2. Prefetch a Jev ranking of candidates with limited context
  3. Tap Ctrl to apply the new order
  4. Select the word as usual

Strengths

  • Context-aware candidate ordering
  • Configurable context length and timing
  • Off by default

Caveats

  • Developer preview; build from source
  • Sends typing context to a third-party API when enabled
  • macOS Apple silicon only so far

Getting started
