jev-design

Experiment where Jev turns a one-sentence brief into a coherent design system for a whole dashboard console.

Appprototype

Overview

jev-design asks whether a model can design a dashboard: make every visual decision of an interface from one sentence and keep them consistent across components. Typing a brief such as 'an 18th century printed book' turns the console, within a second or two, into aged paper, zero-chroma ink, small-caps labels, hatched chart fills, square corners and no icon set. A real-time recording shows six briefs in 83 seconds.

The console runs without a key, but the brief endpoint returns 503 until TYPESAFE_API_KEY is set, and the key stays server-side. Requests go to api.typesafe.ai through the TypeSafe SDK or, with JEV_ROUTE=gateway, through Vercel's AI Gateway via a small adapter. Two Vercel WAF rules meter the endpoint at the edge: three generations per visitor per ten minutes and sixty overall, which the README estimates caps cost at about 0.25 USD an hour.

What the decision model decides

TypeQuestionAnswers
ChoiceWhich value fits the brief for each design token (palette, typography, corners, chart fill, icon set)?(inferred)—

How it works

  1. User types a one-sentence design brief
  2. Server asks Jev typed questions for each design dimension
  3. Map answers to the console's design tokens
  4. Re-render the whole dashboard with the new system

Strengths

  • Whole-interface restyling in a second or two
  • Server-side key with edge rate limits
  • Works via TypeSafe or Vercel AI Gateway

Caveats

  • Experiment rather than a design tool
  • Public deployment is rate limited

Getting started

`npm install`, copy .env.example to .env.local with TYPESAFE_API_KEY, then `npm run dev`.

Frequently asked questions

What does Jev decide?

The visual choices that make up the dashboard's design system, derived from a single brief.

Does it work without a key?

The console loads, but generating a design from a brief requires TYPESAFE_API_KEY.

How is cost controlled?

Vercel WAF rules limit generations per visitor and overall per ten minutes.
