barrunto

Experimental Chrome extension that asks Jev closed questions about X posts, X profiles and HN comments and labels them only when clear.

Overview

Barrunto (Spanish for a hunch) is a Chrome extension that reads what you browse, asks Jev a handful of closed questions about each item and hangs a label on it when the answer is clear, staying quiet when unsure. It presents labels as a model's opinion, not a verdict on the writer.

Three rule packs ship: X Posts labels Bait (made to farm reactions), Flame (picking a fight) or Signal (worth your time); Jetective Jev builds a case file on an X profile (Automated, Scam, Billboard, Farm, Maker, Pro or Regular) with evidence; and Hacker News labels comments as Insight, Snark or Tangent. Each post or comment gets nine yes/no questions. Packs start off, sensitivity is adjustable, and with X Posts on it can also check your own draft before you post. It is explicitly an experiment, not in the Chrome Web Store, and it gets things wrong.

How it works

  1. Enable a rule pack for a site
  2. Extension reads posts, comments or a profile
  3. Jev answers the pack's closed questions
  4. Code maps answers to labels above a sensitivity threshold
  5. Label shown; uncertain items left unlabeled

Strengths

  • Adjustable sensitivity
  • Can check your own drafts

Caveats
