jevsearch
shadcn/ui site-search block that shows keyword hits instantly, then has Jev re-rank the top 20 by what the visitor meant.
Overview
jevsearch is a drop-in shadcn/ui registry block for site search. A command palette shows keyword hits from a local lexical index on the first keystroke, in single-digit milliseconds, and a couple of hundred milliseconds later re-ranks them with Jev. One request sends the query and up to 20 candidates and asks a Noul per page on whether the visitor would be glad to land there, a Choice for the single best answer, and a Noul on whether any page answers at all. Code blends the answers, drops hits under a threshold and animates the new order.
There are no embeddings, vector database or re-index job. If TypeSafe is slow or down, keyword order stands and the footer says so. Installing adds the component, hook, index, server handler and API route to your project; an indexer can build the index from a folder of Markdown or MDX. The demo searches all 109 pages of the TypeSafe docs, and list sources cite the repo's benchmark reporting Hit@1 of 83% versus 41% for keyword ranking alone. It is unofficial.
What the decision model decides
| Type | Question | Answers |
|---|---|---|
| Yes / no | Would the visitor be glad to land on this page? | — |
| Choice | Which page is the single best answer? | — |
| Yes / no | Does any page answer the query at all? | — |
How it works
- Local keyword pass returns hits immediately
- Top 20 hits and the query are sent to Jev in one request
- Code blends per-page probabilities and the best-answer choice
- Hits below threshold are dropped and the list re-orders
- On failure, keyword order is kept and the footer says so
Strengths
- Instant results with smarter ranking shortly after
- No vector database or embeddings
- Graceful degradation when the API is unavailable
- Files are copied into your project, not wrapped in a package
Caveats
- Re-ranking limited to keyword shortlist
- Each search is a paid API call
- Unofficial

How curated lists describe it
Site search: shadcn/ui command-palette block that streams keyword hits on the first keystroke, then sends the top 20 to Jev in one request (a `Noul` per page on whether the visitor would be glad to land there, a `Choice` for the single best answer, and a `Noul` on whether any page answers at all) and re-orders or drops hits in code, with the repo's own benchmark over the 109-page TypeSafe docs reporting Hit@1 of 83% against 41% for its keyword pass alone.
