HN Jev Sorter
Chrome extension that sorts Hacker News comments into user-defined buckets with one Jev Choice call per comment.
Overview
HN Jev Sorter is a Chrome extension for reading Hacker News threads. You pick up to 12 buckets, each with a name and a description, such as astroturfing accusations, it's overhyped, or off topic, and press Run. Each comment is sent to Jev as a single Choice question whose options are the buckets plus an always-present Other option, and the comment animates into the bucket Jev picks.
It is for readers who want to scan the shape of a large discussion quickly. Each comment is labelled on the page with its bucket and probability, and hovering a bucket lists its comments sorted by probability. The README reports Jev answering each comment in about 300 ms, with six requests in flight at once from the background service worker. The API key is stored in Chrome's local extension storage and sent only to api.typesafe.ai.
What the decision model decides
| Type | Question | Answers |
|---|---|---|
| Choice | Which category best describes what this Hacker News comment is doing? | Astroturfing accusations · It's overhyped · Off topic · Other |

Strengths
- About 300 ms per comment per the README, so sorting feels live
- An Other option avoids forcing comments into a bad fit
- Probabilities let you read the most confident matches first
- Buckets are user-defined in plain language
Caveats
- Requires a TypeSafe API key and sends comment text to the API
