hearth-jev-rental-search

Rental-search agent that drives Chrome across Craigslist, Facebook, Redfin and Zillow, with Jev deciding which listings match.

Projectprototype

Overview

Hearth is an AI agent that drives a real Chrome browser to search Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, Redfin and Zillow from one plain-language request, such as a studio in Oakland under $2,500 near BART, and returns a single shortlist of matching rentals. You can watch every click, and it can take typed or spoken searches.

It only reads pages and reports findings: it never messages a seller, saves a listing or starts a transaction. According to the list summaries, Jev decides which listings match the criteria. The README says a search costs a fraction of a cent, and setup requires uv, Chrome started with a separate debugging profile, and a TypeSafe key. It needs uv, Google Chrome and a TypeSafe key.

What the decision model decides

TypeQuestionAnswers
Yes / noDoes this listing match the user's criteria?(inferred)yes · no

How it works

  1. User types or speaks a rental request
  2. Hearth fills search filters and browses four marketplaces
  3. Jev judges which listings match
  4. Return one shortlist; never contact sellers

Strengths

  • Read-only; no transactions or messages
  • Multi-source shortlist
  • Low cost per search

Caveats

  • Browser automation may break as sites change
  • Requires a dedicated Chrome profile

Getting started

uv sync, set TYPESAFE_API_KEY in .env, start Chrome with --remote-debugging-port=9222, then BU_CDP_URL=http://127.0.0.1:9222 uv run jev.
