system-one (asynq-io)
Vendor-neutral Python SDK for System One models with one ask(state, questions) contract over hosted APIs or local ONNX.
Overview
system-one from asynq-io is a vendor-neutral Python SDK for System One models built on one contract, ask(state, questions) returning answers, over the three primitives noul, choice and score. Switching providers is a configuration object rather than a code change: TypesafeConfig for hosted Jev, OpenRouterConfig for the same body at a different endpoint, HTTPConfig for any /v1/systemone host, ONNXConfig for a local in-process graph with no network or key, and a preset for Fastino's GLiDE, which serves the same contract. An async client mirrors the sync one.
Settings come from SYSTEM_ONE_* environment variables or a .env file, including backend, model, base URL, path, timeout and retries (on 408, 429 and 5xx only). Answers expose noul probabilities with confidence, choice probabilities and scores. The README stresses these are decision models, not chat models: no messages, streaming or temperature.
What the decision model decides
| Type | Question | Answers |
|---|---|---|
| Yes / no | Does this need a human now? | — |
| Choice | Which queue? | billing · technical · other |
| Score | How severe? | minor · normal · major · critical |
How it works
- Pick a config: Typesafe, OpenRouter, HTTP, ONNX or GLiDE
- agent.ask(state, questions)
- Read typed answers
- Switch providers by changing the config only
Strengths
- Hosted and local backends behind one API
- Async support
- Simple environment configuration
Caveats
- Local ONNX needs model files
- Limited retry policy by design
Getting started
pip install "system-one[http]" (or [onnx]), set SYSTEM_ONE_API_KEY, then SystemOne(TypesafeConfig()).ask(state, questions).At a glance
