switchyard

macOS menu-bar link router that opens each link in the right browser profile, asking Jev when no local rule matches and learning rules.

Projectbeta

Overview

Switchyard is a macOS menu-bar app set as the default browser that opens every link in the right browser profile, such as work links in a work profile and personal links in a personal one. It supports Dia, Chrome and Firefox, and should work with Brave, Edge and Vivaldi; Safari cannot select profiles. Rules matching a domain, host, path prefix or identifying query parameter, plus per-app rules, route most links locally in microseconds with no network.

When no rule matches, Switchyard asks Jev two questions in one request (usually 70-500 ms): which profile should open this link, given your one-sentence description of each profile, and which part of the URL identifies the account (domain, subdomain, first path segment, query identifier, or can't generalise). Only the host, first three path segments and query parameter names are sent. At confidence 0.7 or above (adjustable) it opens the link and saves a rule at the scope Jev picked; below that it opens Jev's top pick, saves nothing and flags the link for one-click correction. Offline, links fall back to a chosen profile, and once Jev is reachable again recent links are re-checked with a Move button offered rather than reopening.

What the decision model decides

How it works

  1. Match the link against local rules first
  2. If none match, ask Jev for profile and rule scope
  3. At 0.7+ confidence open and learn a rule; otherwise open and flag
  4. Offline: use fallback profile and re-check later

Strengths

  • Most links routed locally with no network
  • Learns rules from confident answers
  • Sends only minimal URL parts

Caveats

  • macOS only; Safari unsupported
  • Needs a TypeSafe key for unmatched links

How curated lists describe it

  • Every link on the right track in Dia. A menu-bar router that opens links in the right Dia profile, decided by TypeSafe's Jev and learned as local rules.

Frequently asked questions

What does Jev decide?

Which profile a link belongs in and how general a rule to learn from it.

What is sent to TypeSafe?

Only the host, the first three path segments and query parameter names.

Does it work without a key?

Yes, rules still apply and unmatched links open in a fallback profile.
