skillbox

Self-hosted, versioned skills library for AI agents with MCP and optional Jev recommendations scoring skills against a task.

Agent skillbetaMIT

Overview

skillbox is a self-hosted, versioned skills library for AI agents built with React, Bun, Hono and PostgreSQL, offering an MCP interface and scoped clients. It is MIT licensed and made by Kitze.

Optional task-aware Jev recommendations use your own key for Vercel AI Gateway (the default), TypeSafe or OpenRouter, configured in Settings. Keys are stored per provider and never sent to another provider, and skillbox never auto-imports environment keys or ships a shared account. Jev receives the task text and the authorised active skill descriptions and scores them against a bounded catalog and rubric; TypeSafe is called at /v1/systemone with jev-latest and OpenRouter at its decisions endpoint with typesafe/jev-1.13. Without a key, or on failure, recommendations fall back to deterministic search with an explicit reason and the attempted provider.

What the decision model decides

TypeQuestionAnswers
ScoreHow relevant is this skill to the task?—

How it works

  1. Agent or user submits a task
  2. skillbox sends the task and authorised skill descriptions to the chosen provider
  3. Jev scores each skill against the rubric
  4. Return ranked skills, or deterministic search with a fallback reason

Strengths

  • Bring-your-own key across three providers
  • Clear fallback when no key or on error
  • Self-hosted and versioned

Caveats

  • Saving a key does not validate access or credits
  • Task text and skill descriptions go to the provider

Getting started

Self-host the app (Bun, PostgreSQL), then open Settings, Jev recommendations and save a provider key.
