nf-jev

Nextflow plugin exposing Jev noul, choice and score judgments as pipeline functions you can gate on with ordinary operators.

Pluginbeta

Overview

nf-jev, from the Nextflow organisation, exposes TypeSafe System One judgments as ordinary Nextflow functions. A pipeline builds typed questions as values with noul (is this true?), choice (which one?) and score (how much?), then calls jev(state, questions) to answer them all against one state in one request and gates on the probabilities with plain Nextflow operators.

The README stresses that Jev returns a probability distribution over allowed answers, which a pipeline can branch on, unlike a confidence number a language model invents. Configuration covers provider (TypeSafe or OpenRouter), API key via secrets or environment, a pinned model for reproducible results, endpoint, timeout and an optional cache directory. It is a beta plugin whose function names and answer shapes may change, so versions should be pinned. It suits bioinformatics and data pipelines that need semantic checks, such as flagging text that gives clinical guidance.

How it works

  1. Enable nf-jev in nextflow.config and set the API key.
  2. Build questions with noul, choice and score.
  3. Call jev(state, questions) inside a channel operation.
  4. Filter or branch on the returned probabilities.

Strengths

  • Native Nextflow functions; no glue code.
  • Caching and pinned models support reproducibility.
  • Supports TypeSafe or OpenRouter.

Caveats

  • Beta; API may change without deprecation cycle.
  • Requires an API key and network access from the pipeline.

Getting started

Add plugins { id 'nf-jev@0.2.1' } to nextflow.config and export TYPESAFE_API_KEY.

Frequently asked questions

What functions does nf-jev provide?

noul, choice, score and jev, which answers several questions against one state in one request.

How do I make results reproducible?

Pin a model snapshot and set a cacheDir.

Is it stable?

No, it is beta; pin a version and expect changes.
