jev-netlify-mcp
Key-locked Netlify proxy that serves Jev through Netlify AI Gateway credits, plus an MCP server for Claude Code, Codex and Claude Desktop.
Overview
jev-netlify-mcp lets you use TypeSafe's Jev from Claude Code, Codex CLI, Claude Desktop or any MCP client, paid for by free Netlify credits rather than a TypeSafe balance. It has two parts. A small Netlify function exposes the TypeSafe routes for systemone and models and forwards calls through Netlify AI Gateway, which injects its own credentials; requests without your private key get a 401 and never reach the model. An MCP server provides jev_evaluate and jev_models tools plus instructions that teach the agent to ask atomic questions, use the three question types, translate non-English input to English and flag low-confidence answers.
The author measured 18,000 Jev tokens at 0.11 Netlify credits, with each production deploy costing 15 credits on a 300-credit free plan. Only a SHA-256 hash of the key is deployed. The MCP server also works directly against the TypeSafe API.
What the decision model decides
| Type | Question | Answers |
|---|---|---|
| Other | jev_evaluate: any typed noul, choice or score questions from the agent | — |
How it works
- Create a key and build the proxy with setup.py
- Deploy the zip with Netlify Drop and set the site URL
- Check that unauthenticated calls get 401
- Register jev-netlify-mcp with your agent and call jev_evaluate
Strengths
- Jev access without a TypeSafe balance
- Only the key hash is deployed
- Agent instructions encourage good question design
Caveats
- Depends on Netlify AI Gateway terms and credit pricing
- Deploys consume credits
- Setting TYPESAFE_* variables on Netlify disables gateway credential injection
Getting started
pip install ., python scripts/setup.py new-key, deploy dist/jev-proxy.zip with Netlify Drop, then claude mcp add --scope user jev -- jev-netlify-mcpAt a glance

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a TypeSafe API key?
No. Netlify AI Gateway supplies the credentials; you only need a Netlify account.
How is the proxy protected?
Requests must carry your private key; only its SHA-256 hash is stored in the function.
How much does it cost?
The author measured 18,000 Jev tokens at 0.11 credits on a 300-credit free plan, plus 15 credits per deploy.
