jev-desktop

Codex plugin adding a bounded Jev decision loop to Computer Use for browser tabs and native macOS apps.

Projectbeta

Overview

Jev Desktop for Codex adds a bounded decision loop to Codex Computer Use. Codex understands the goal, prepares text, defines allowed actions and verifies the result; Jev selects an operation and a compatible target in one request; Computer Use observes the approved interface and performs the click, fill, scroll or shortcut. It reuses the existing Computer Use runtime without a second browser controller or private APIs.

The motivation is that returning to the main agent after every UI click adds latency and loses short-term context. Each step reads a full accessibility snapshot, applies action and safety allow-lists, returns sensitive or consequential controls to Codex, and validates Jev's operation distribution and confidence before acting. A DONE answer triggers an independent local verifier; BLOCKED hands back to Codex. The interface is re-observed for freshness before executing. It is deliberately not an unrestricted desktop agent.

What the decision model decides

TypeQuestionAnswers
ChoiceWhich operation should be performed next (action, DONE or BLOCKED)?—
ChoiceWhich compatible target element should the operation act on?—

How it works

  1. Codex scopes the task and defines allowed actions
  2. Read an accessibility snapshot and filter by allow-lists
  3. Jev chooses operation and target; validate confidence
  4. Re-observe, execute through Computer Use, and verify independently on DONE

Strengths

  • Fewer round trips to the main agent per click
  • Sensitive controls always return to Codex
  • Independent local verification of completion

Caveats

  • Requires Codex Computer Use on macOS
  • Only explicitly allowed controls are executable

Frequently asked questions

What does Jev decide?

The next operation and its target element on screen.

Does Codex lose control?

No. Codex sets scope, permissions and values, and handles sensitive steps and final verification.

Does it install another browser controller?

No, it reuses the existing Codex Computer Use runtime.
